Metsä Conservation Foundation’s goal is to permanently protect sites of high biodiversity value, while forest ownership remains unchanged. In this case, a private protected area is established in the forest estate by a decision confirmed by the Economic Development Centre.
If you own a forest of high biodiversity value that you wish to place under permanent conservation, please fill in and submit the conservation application form. Metsä Conservation Foundation conserves forests owned by private-sector forest owners in accordance with its rules.
Metsä Conservation Foundation compensates the forest owner with a one-time conservation compensation for successful conservation. The conservation compensation follows the METSO programme’s compensation scheme for forested areas, which is based on the sites wood value.
In rare cases, if the forest owner wishes, the Foundation can buy a site with particularly high biodiversity and thus conserve it permanently. If you would like to sell your forest to Metsä Conservation Foundation, please mention this in your application.
